Under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), the City of Wrenford is required to track and publish statistics on every access to information request we receive. These numbers help us show how transparent we are and where we can improve our service to you.
Each year, we count:
- The total number of requests received
- How many were completed within the 30-day legal limit
- How many required an extension because of complex searches or large volumes of records
- How many were partially or fully refused under privacy or commercial exemptions
- Any appeals made to the Information and Privacy Commissioner for Ontario
Here is a summary of our recent request volumes and outcomes:
| Year | Requests Received | Completed Within Limit | Extensions Used | Refused (in full or part) | Appeals |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 142 | 98 | 34 | 10 | 1 |
| 2024 | 135 | 91 | 38 | 6 | 0 |
| 2023 | 128 | 85 | 37 | 5 | 2 |
Most requests in 2025 were for parking by-law records, road maintenance logs, and general meeting minutes. A small number asked for personnel files, which are protected under the privacy sections of the act. When a request involves a large volume of documents or requires searching multiple departments, we may need more than 30 days to respond. We always notify you in writing when an extension is necessary and explain why.
If you need the full annual reports with detailed breakdowns, you can find them in the Freedom of information FAQ section. Each report includes a list of every department that received a request, the average processing time, and notes on any system changes we made to improve turnaround times.
You can also view the raw data in our open data portal, or download a CSV file of all completed requests since 2021. The data is updated every quarter. We use these statistics to train our staff, update our search procedures, and plan for future workload. If you have questions about how we track these numbers or want to suggest a category we should add to our annual summary, email Contact access and privacy. Our access and privacy team reviews the data annually to identify bottlenecks and streamline our search procedures.
For tips on writing a clear request that speeds up processing, see Make a freedom of information request. Remember that a well-defined request usually takes less time to locate and review, which means faster answers for everyone.
Check the Freedom of information fees page if your request is expected to exceed the $5.00 application fee. We will contact you before charging any search or retrieval fees.
