Information for candidates

Find out who can run for City of Wrenford Council, how to submit your nomination papers, and what rules apply during your campaign.

Who can run

Any Canadian citizen who is at least 18 years old on election day can run for City of Wrenford Council. You must have lived or owned property in the city for at least six months before the election. You do not need to own property to run.

To run for a councillor position, you must also be a resident of the ward you want to represent on nomination day.

How to nominate

If you want to run, you must submit a completed nomination package to the Municipal Returning Officer (the City Clerk) by the close of business on October 2, 2026. You can pick up a package at Wrenford City Hall or download it from the Elections page.

Your package must include:

  • A signed nomination form
  • Signatures from two eligible voters from your ward (or the city, if running for mayor)
  • A copy of your photo identification
  • A $50.00 deposit (refunded if you receive at least 10% of the vote)

Running your campaign

All nomination and campaign rules follow the Ontario Municipal Elections Act, 1996. Once your nomination is accepted, your name will be added to the Register of candidates. You will receive a Candidate Information Package with rules for election signs, advertising, and spending limits.

Keep your campaign finances separate. After the election, you must file a Statement of Election Expenses with the Elections Office by December 26, 2026.

Your responsibilities as an official

Elected officials in Wrenford serve the whole community. Before taking your seat, you will be asked to read and agree to the Code of conduct for elected officials and the Conflict of interest policy.

These rules make sure decisions are made openly and fairly. They cover how you handle gifts, use public resources, and vote on matters that affect your personal interests or your business.
