About the Wrenford Youth Council
The Wrenford Youth Council is a group of young residents who work directly with City Council. You will help shape policies, plan community events, and give feedback on city services. The council represents residents aged 13 to 24 from all six wards. You will meet bi-weekly during the school year to discuss issues that matter to young people in Wrenford.
Who can apply
Any resident of Wrenford who is between 13 and 24 years old can apply. You do not need previous experience with local government. We welcome students, trades apprentices, college students, and young workers from every neighbourhood. You must be able to attend meetings regularly and commit to a two-year term. You can be reappointed once for a second term.
What members do
Youth Council members review city plans and suggest changes. You will lead projects that improve safety, transit, parks, and recreation for young residents. You will also speak at Council meetings and present recommendations. Members work with the City Clerk's Office and the Community Relations team to organize events like the annual Youth Summit and the Tamsin River Run youth volunteer day. You will gain experience in public speaking, budget planning, and community leadership.
Meeting schedule and location
The Youth Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of every month from September to June. Meetings run from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. All sessions are held at Wrenford City Hall in Room 310. Refreshments are provided. If a meeting falls on a holiday or school break, the schedule will shift and you will receive an email update. You can also join by video link if you cannot attend in person.
How to apply
We accept applications once a year. The application window opens on January 15 and closes on March 31. You will need to fill out the Youth Council Application Form and answer a short question about why you want to join. You must also provide a reference from a teacher, coach, or community leader. Completed applications should be submitted to the City Clerk's Office or uploaded online. We review every application carefully and contact selected members by May 15. New members will attend an orientation in early September.
