What we do

The Public Art Committee advises City Council on all public art matters in Wrenford. We help make sure art in parks, on buildings, and along the Tamsin River Trail reflects the community's stories and values. The committee also reviews applications from developers and community groups who want to place artwork in public spaces.

How the committee works

Committee members are residents appointed by Council. They serve a two-year term and can be reappointed once. Meetings are open to the public, and we usually meet monthly in the Council Chambers at City Hall. You can view the agenda and minutes for each meeting on the Council meeting schedules page.

Public art programs

The committee oversees three main ways to bring art into public spaces:

  • Civic Public Art Program: City-funded projects for parks, community buildings, and major infrastructure. We choose projects that match community priorities and the Official Plan.
  • Private Development Program: Developers contributing to the Public Art Fund through the Public art policy. Contributions help commission new works or support major civic projects.
  • Community Public Art Grant: Small grants for neighbourhood groups, schools, and local artists to install temporary or permanent pieces in public areas.

Joining the committee

We welcome residents who care about art, design, and community spaces to apply. You do not need professional art experience, but you should be familiar with Wrenford's neighbourhoods and have an interest in how public spaces work. To apply, visit the Join the public art committee page. The next application window closes on January 31, 2027.

Policy and bylaws

Our work follows the Public art policy and Public art bylaws and guidelines. These documents set the rules for selecting artists, managing budgets, and maintaining artwork once it is installed. If you want to donate a piece of art to the City, the policy explains the review process and space requirements.
