What are Council accountability reports?

Every quarter, the City Manager and senior leaders present updates on how the City is performing. These reports help Council track progress toward its goals and make sure taxpayer money is being spent wisely. You can view the full reports online or ask questions at a public meeting.

What do the reports cover?

Each accountability report looks at four main areas:

  • Financial performance: How much revenue was collected compared to what was budgeted, and how much was spent on programs and services.
  • Strategic priorities: Updates on long-term projects, climate adaptation, and community safety investments.
  • Service levels: How well everyday services like garbage collection, road maintenance, and transit are running.
  • Asset management: The condition of City infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and the water system, along with renewal plans.

Who prepares the reports?

City Manager Robert Eng oversees the process. The General Managers for Community Services, Infrastructure and Planning, Corporate Services, and Protective Services provide the data and analysis from their departments. The reports are reviewed by Council before they are shared with the public.

How are the reports used?

Council uses these reports to adjust spending, approve new projects, and set priorities for the next quarter. If a department is over or under budget, Council can make decisions to keep services on track. The reports also feed into the annual budget process.

Where to find the reports
