What are assistive alerting devices?
Assistive alerting devices give you extra ways to know if there is an emergency in your home. The Wrenford Fire Service provides these devices at no cost to Deaf and hard-of-hearing residents. The devices use bright lights, loud sounds, and vibrations so you can stay safe even if you cannot hear a standard alarm.
How the devices work
Each kit comes with parts that match your needs:
- Flashing strobe lights: These plug into a wall outlet and flash brightly when smoke or carbon monoxide is detected.
- Bed and pillow shakers: These sit under your mattress or pillow and shake to wake you up during an emergency.
- Loud audio sirens: These make a low-pitched, high-volume sound that is easier to hear with hearing loss.
Who can apply
You can get a free kit if you:
- Live within the City of Wrenford
- Self-identify as Deaf or hard of hearing
You do not need to show proof of income or disability status to receive a kit.
