Take part in shaping Wrenford's future
When the City plans a new neighbourhood, updates a policy, or builds a major facility, we need your input. Under the Planning Act and our own Official Plan, we are required to listen to residents before making decisions. This page explains how you can share your ideas, when we ask for feedback, and what happens after.
When we ask for your input
We run public engagement campaigns for:
- Updates to the City of Wrenford Official Plan
- Changes to zoning rules, including the Zoning By-law 2016-040
- Major developments that affect traffic, parks, or the environment
- Capital projects, like new recreation centres or road upgrades
How we engage the public
Most projects follow a four-step process. You will see how each step works below.
Step 1: Early idea sharing
Before staff draft a proposal, we share background research and initial concepts. You can view draft maps, read a plain-language summary, and leave notes on our Community Engagement Portal. This stage helps us spot problems early and keeps the conversation open.
Step 2: Formal notice
When a draft plan is ready, the City sends a formal notice. We mail a postcard to every home and business within two blocks of the site. We also post the notice on the Public Notices page and at Wrenford City Hall. The notice explains what is being proposed and where you can view the full documents.
Step 3: Public meeting or virtual session
For larger projects, we host a public meeting. These usually take place in the Council Chambers at City Hall, or online via livestream. Staff present the proposal, answer questions, and record every comment. You do not need to register to attend.
Step 4: Written feedback period
After the meeting, we open a 30-day written comment period. You can submit feedback by email, through our online form, or by mail. All comments are logged and reviewed by the planning team. We publish a summary of public input in the report that goes to Council.
What happens to your feedback
Staff review every comment against provincial policy, the Official Plan, and relevant by-laws. If your suggestion can be made, staff will adjust the proposal before it reaches Council. If a change is not allowed under current rules, staff will explain why in the report. Council makes the final decision at a regular meeting on the second or fourth Monday of the month.
Participation fees
Public engagement is free for residents. There is no fee to attend a meeting, view documents, or submit comments. If you are a developer or applicant, the City charges a processing fee under the Fees and Charges By-law 2025-151 to cover the cost of notices, meetings, and staff time.
