Wrenford parks close trails for winter maintenance

The City of Wrenford will close the Tamsin River Trail System and all park pathways to pedestrians and cyclists starting November 15, 2026. The closure allows Roads & Winter Maintenance crews to begin plowing trails and applying de-icing agents ahead of the first heavy snowfalls.

The 64-kilometre trail network, which runs through Riverside Flats Park, Benchlands Lookout Park, Ambrel Lake Park, and the Corvid Creek Ravine Natural Area, will remain accessible for winter sports like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The City will maintain the trails for non-motorized use, but the surfaces may be packed snow or ice rather than gravel or asphalt. Cyclists and pedestrians are asked to stay off the trails during active plowing and treatment windows, which typically run from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and again from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

You can still access park amenities such as outdoor rinks and picnic shelters during the winter, though operating hours will be reduced. The City will also remove park benches and planters from exposed areas to prevent damage and improve safety.

"Winter maintenance on our trails is a delicate balance," says James Whitford, Roads Superintendent. "We want to keep these paths safe for walkers and skiers, but we also need to clear the trails quickly so emergency crews and maintenance vehicles can access park facilities. We appreciate residents' patience while crews work through the neighbourhoods."

If you notice trail closures caused by fallen trees or hazardous ice, call 311 or use the Service Wrenford mobile app to report it. You will see the overnight on-street parking ban begin on December 1, and remember that residential streets are prioritized for snow removal. Main roads are cleared after five centimetres of snow, and residential streets follow after eight centimetres.
