Starting in September, the Wrenford Public Library and Wrenford Transit have partnered with the Wrenford District School Board and the Wrenford Catholic District School Board to roll out Books on the Bus, a new initiative bringing library materials directly to students and transit riders.
The programme puts curated reading kits and take-home books on fixed-route buses serving neighbourhoods near schools, including the Northgate and Ambrel Lake corridors. Riders can check out items with their library card and return them on the bus or at any library branch. This setup makes it simple to grab a book while heading to school or work.
"We want the transit experience to be more than just a commute. Giving riders access to library resources right on the bus turns travel time into reading time," Transit Manager Daniel Osei says.
The fall rollout follows a successful pilot in the Downtown and Benchlands areas earlier this year. Library staff will work with school librarians to match book themes to classroom reading lists, ensuring students get materials that support what they are learning in class.
Schools will receive a schedule of upcoming bus stops and reading themes for the semester. Parents and students can pick up a free library card at the Downtown Transit Terminal or any branch. You can also use the Get a library card process to register online.
