Wrenford launches 2026 winter snow clearing plan ahead of first storm

The City of Wrenford today released its updated 2026 Winter Maintenance Plan, setting out how crews will clear streets, treat roads for ice, and keep the community moving through the colder months. With the first snowfall expected soon, Roads & Winter Maintenance teams are already testing equipment and restocking salt and brine at depots across the city.

The plan divides Wrenford's roads into priority zones. Major arteries and bus routes will be plowed as soon as conditions allow, while residential streets are serviced within 48 hours of an 8 cm snowfall. To protect pedestrians, crews focus on sidewalks near schools, parks, and transit stops.

"Wrenford's winter operations rely on preparation and teamwork," said Roads Superintendent James Whitford. "Our crews are trained and ready, and our equipment is stocked. When we work together to keep sidewalks clear and follow parking bans, we keep everyone safe and moving."

Residents should note the overnight on-street parking ban runs from December 1 to March 31, from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. This allows snow removal vehicles to clear main roads without obstruction. For more details on when and where to move your car, see snow route parking bans.

Property owners are responsible for clearing snow and ice from the sidewalks in front of their homes within 24 hours of a storm. Failure to do so can result in a fine under the Winter Maintenance and Parking By-law 2020-097, starting at $150.00 for a first offence. If you notice a pothole, a missing sign, or a street light that needs attention after the snow clears, report it through the City's online service request tool or call 519-555-0100 during business hours. For after-hours emergencies, call 519-555-0111.
