The City of Wrenford is introducing updated blue bin recycling guidelines effective Tuesday, February 16. The changes are designed to reduce contamination in the recycling stream and make sorting easier for residents across all neighbourhoods.
Under the new guidelines, residents will use a dedicated blue bin for all accepted recyclables, collected weekly on the same day as your Green Bin. The City is also mailing a free recycling guide to every household, and the Waste Wizard online lookup tool has been updated with a clearer list of accepted items.
Key changes to the programme include:
- Rigid plastics, such as milk jugs and detergent bottles, must be empty and lightly rinsed.
- Flexible plastics, including bread bags and chip bags, are no longer accepted in the blue bin. Residents can drop these off for free at the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility or any recreation centre drop-off point.
- Cardboard boxes must be flattened and placed inside the bin.
- Glass is now accepted for the first time and should be placed directly in the blue bin without a bag.
Waste Programs Supervisor Ben Achterberg says the changes are about making recycling work better for everyone. We know it takes a little time to adjust to new sorting rules, but these updates will keep our recycling clean and ensure it actually gets turned into new products, Achterberg says.
Residents who have questions can visit the Waste Wizard online lookup tool or call 519-555-0100 for help. The City will also host three drop-in information sessions at the Wrenford City Hall Service Wrenford counter in March to answer questions and hand out free recycling guides.
