The City of Wrenford is accepting applications for overnight parking ban exemptions ahead of the Wrenford Ice Days festival in February. If you park on a snow route in the Fallsview, Riverside Flats, or Old Mill neighbourhoods, you can now secure a permit to keep your vehicle on the street while crews clear the roads.
The overnight on-street parking ban runs from December 1 to March 31, between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. when snow reaches certain depths. During the busy festival weekend, roads around Centennial Gardens and the Tamsin River Trail will see heavy foot traffic and special event traffic. City crews need to keep these routes clear for snowplows and maintenance trucks. To see how Roads & Winter Maintenance crews prioritize routes and treat surfaces for safety, visit our winter maintenance plans. Residents who rely on on-street parking can apply for an exemption to avoid having to move their cars during the ban.
To apply, visit the Apply for a snow route parking ban exemption page online or pick up a form at Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1. You will need to provide proof of residence, a photo of your vehicle, and a description of why the exemption is necessary. The application is free, and the City processes requests within four to six weeks. We encourage early submission so your permit is ready before the first snowfall or the Ice Days weekend.
"If a resident has a medical condition or simply cannot move their vehicle during the early morning hours, this exemption program provides a fair and practical solution," says City Manager Robert Eng. "We want everyone to enjoy Ice Days safely, and clear roads help everyone, from festival goers to snowplow operators."
Once approved, you must display the permit clearly on your vehicle's dashboard or windshield during the ban period. If you move your car without an approved exemption, you may receive a ticket under the Winter Maintenance and Parking By-law 2020-097. If you need to request a snow route parking ban exemption for a different reason, such as a disability or a long-term medical need, the same application process applies and the City covers the full cost.
