Apply for a snow route parking ban exemption

Apply for a snow route parking ban exemption if you or a household member have a mobility condition that makes it impossible to move your vehicle during winter snow clearing operations.

Why exemptions exist

Snow route parking bans allow City crews to clear major roads quickly after heavy snow. If you or someone in your household has a mobility condition that makes it impossible to park in an alley or on a side street, you can apply for an exemption. This lets you keep your vehicle on your snow route street while crews work.

Who qualifies

  • You live on a designated snow route.
  • You or a household member have a medical or mobility condition that prevents moving a vehicle during a ban.
  • You do not have access to a garage, private driveway, or alley.

How to apply

Follow these steps to request your exemption:

  1. Download the Snow Route Exemption Application form.
  2. Fill in your contact and property details.
  3. Ask a doctor, physiotherapist, or other medical professional to complete the medical confirmation section. They just need to confirm that your condition limits your ability to relocate a vehicle on short notice.
  4. Sign the application and attach a copy of your proof of residency (like a utility bill or driver's licence).

Submit your application

You can submit your form in one of three ways:

  • By email: Send a scanned copy to [email protected].
  • By mail: Drop it in the mail to 100 Mercer Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1.
  • In person: Bring it to the Service Wrenford counter at City Hall during business hours.

Processing and approval

We review applications as they come in. You will usually hear back within five business days. If approved, you will receive a digital exemption certificate and a magnet for your vehicle. Keep the magnet visible on your dashboard during the winter season.

What happens during a ban

When a parking ban is in effect:

  • Your vehicle must stay on your exempted street. Do not move it to a side street unless directed.
  • Leave a clear path for plows and snow removal equipment.
  • Keep your waste and recycling carts on the boulevard or sidewalk, not in the street.

Exemptions are valid from December 1 to March 31 each year. If you move or your medical condition changes, you must reapply.
