Wildrye Splash Pad winterization begins August 25

City of Wrenford crews will begin winterization work at the Wildrye Splash Pad today, August 25. The seasonal outdoor splash pad at Wildrye Park (90 Wildrye Drive) will remain open for the rest of the summer, but crews need to start draining pipes and covering equipment to keep everything ready for next year.

Winterization is a routine maintenance step that protects the splash pad's plumbing and spray features from damage. Over the next few days, crews will shut off the water supply, drain all lines, test the electrical systems, and install protective covers over the nozzles and control panels. The splash pad will continue operating at its regular hours of 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily until the season officially ends on Labour Day, September 7.

“The splash pad gets a lot of use, so we want to make sure it is in great shape for the final few weeks,” says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. “Once we finish winterization work, the pad will stay open for you to enjoy through Labour Day weekend.”

Residents can still visit the splash pad and Wildrye Park during winterization. Crews will use temporary safety fencing around the work area to keep families safe, and the playground and picnic shelters nearby will remain open. If you notice any issues with the splash pad or park equipment while crews are working, please report it through the city's online maintenance form or call 519-555-0100.

After the splash pad closes for the season, the Parks & Trails team will begin a full equipment inspection and repair process before the next summer. For the latest information on splash pad hours, park rules, and seasonal closures, visit our Find playgrounds and splash pads page.
