Weekly green bin collection begins May 6 across Wrenford

Starting May 6, the City of Wrenford begins weekly green bin collection across all neighbourhoods. Residents can now place their green bins at the curb every week on their regular collection day.

Getting back to weekly service means we can keep more organic material out of the landfill. The City will turn the collected material into compost for our parks, community gardens, and tree planting programmes. You will continue to see your black cart picked up every two weeks, and your blue bin will still be collected weekly as part of the Blue Box program.

Here is what you need to know to get started:

  • What goes in: Food scraps, yard waste, and paper yard-waste bags. Keep lids closed at all times.
  • When to put it out: Place your green bin at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day. Do not place it earlier than the evening before.
  • Yard waste bags: Paper bags filled with leaves and grass clippings are accepted biweekly from April through November. Place them next to your green bin on your regular collection day.
  • Check your cart: If a bag of garbage accidentally ends up in your green bin, crews will leave an orange contamination tag. Please remove the item and check the Waste Wizard to make sure you are sorting correctly.

"Getting back to a weekly collection for green bins means we can keep more organic material out of the landfill and turn it into useful compost for our parks and gardens," said Fiona Gallagher, GM Community Services. "We appreciate residents taking the time to sort their waste correctly so our collection crews can work safely and efficiently."
