Wrenford Transit is updating its fare evasion policy and rolling out new enforcement measures to keep riders and staff safe across the network. The changes take effect on May 1, 2026, and focus on three main areas: expanded safety patrols, upgraded terminal surveillance, and a new digital reporting tool.
Starting in early May, the Transit Peace Officer Programme will expand its coverage to all 14 fixed routes and major stops. Transit peace officers will conduct regular on-board and terminal patrols to monitor fare compliance and assist riders with safety concerns. The City works closely with the Wrenford Police Service to ensure a coordinated response when needed.
Surveillance upgrades are already underway at the Downtown Transit Terminal. New high-definition cameras will improve monitoring of waiting areas, ticket machines, and entry gates. These upgrades are part of a broader effort to deter fare evasion and respond faster to safety incidents.
Riders can now report fare evasion and safety concerns directly through the Wrenford Transit app using the new Transit Safety Reporting Channel. You can also send a text to 311 to report an issue in real time. All reports are reviewed by transit operations staff within one business day.
"We want every rider to feel safe and confident when they use public transit," says Daniel Osei, Transit Manager. "These updates give our peace officers the tools and coverage they need to do their jobs effectively, while giving riders a simple way to help keep the network secure."
Under the Transit System By-law 2017-095, fare evasion is a fineable offence. The standard penalty is $250.00. If you receive a ticket, you have five business days to request a review or pay the fine online. You can also pay at the Downtown Transit Terminal or through the Wrenford 311 service line.
