Tamsin River Run raises record funds for local youth sports

This past May, the Tamsin River Run brought more than 2,000 runners, walkers and families to the Tamsin River Trail for a day of fitness and fundraising. The event raised a record $45,000 for local youth sports leagues across the city.

Runners took part in a 5-kilometre and a 10-kilometre route that wound along the river trail system, passing through Riverside Flats Park and the Benchlands neighbourhood. Funds raised will go directly to the Wrenford Youth Sports Association to support equipment, field rentals and registration fees for kids aged 6 to 17 who live in Wrenford.

"Community events like the Tamsin River Run are the backbone of our neighbourhood spirit," said Rosa Castellano, Events Coordinator. "Seeing so many residents turn out to support our youth athletes shows exactly why we keep investing in our trails and public spaces."

Organizers say the record-breaking total comes from a mix of new participants, corporate sponsorships and family teams. Local businesses along Mercer Street and the downtown core helped by providing water stations and post-race snacks. The event also featured a kids' fun run and a community festival at Riverside Flats Park.

If you missed the race this year, you can still support the cause. The Wrenford Youth Sports Association is accepting donations through August 31. You can donate online, drop a cheque in the collection box at Wrenford City Hall, or mail it to 100 Mercer Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1. All donations are tax-receipted.
