Reminder to residents: waste collection on Election Day

Election Day is Monday, October 26, 2026. If you live in Wrenford, your regular garbage, Blue Box recycling, and Green Bin organics collection will proceed as normal that day.

Most residents collect their waste on a weekly or biweekly schedule. If your regular collection day falls on Monday, October 26, please make sure your carts and bags are ready for pickup. Our collection crews will follow their usual routes through your neighbourhood. Having your materials ready on time helps keep the streets clean and allows our drivers to finish their shifts safely. Election Day is a regular business day for the City, so all waste and recycling services continue on their standard timetable.

Here is what you need to know for Election Day:

  • Place your carts and bags at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day.
  • Keep carts at least one metre apart from each other and from parked cars.
  • Double-check your sorting rules. When in doubt, use the Waste Wizard to see exactly where each item belongs.
  • Remember that a one-day collection delay only applies to statutory holidays, not Election Day.
  • If you are voting early or planning to spend the day at the polls, you can still place your carts out the night before or early in the morning.

“We want to make sure our collection routes stay on track so your neighbourhood gets picked up without delay,” says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. “Please have your carts out by 7:00 a.m. and keep lids closed so wind or birds don’t scatter your recyclables. A smooth collection day keeps our streets tidy for everyone.”

For the full schedule, sorting guidelines, and tips on preparing your waste correctly, visit the Garbage & Recycling section of the City website. You can also find your specific collection day by checking the collection schedule or reading the Waste Wizard guide.
