Starting today, June 17, 2026, City contractors begin exterior restoration work at the Old Mill Museum & Archives at 12 Mill Street. The project will run through October and will temporarily shift traffic lanes and close sidewalks along Mill Street.
The repairs focus on the 1834 grist mill’s stonework, window frames, and roof. Because the work happens right on the street, you should expect lane shifts and a sidewalk detour for pedestrians. The City’s Roads & Winter Maintenance team is working with the contractor to keep the street open for vehicles while protecting workers and visitors. You can find more information about how the City handles street work and road repairs on the Roads & Winter Maintenance page.
The museum will remain open to the public during the work, but some indoor exhibit spaces may be closed for safety. You should follow the posted signs and stay on the designated walkway.
“We are working to preserve this historic building while keeping it open for the community,” says Gwen Lachance, Heritage & Archives Coordinator. “We know the construction will change the flow of traffic for a few months, but it is a necessary step to protect the mill for the next generation.”
If you drive or walk past the site, please watch for construction vehicles and follow the directions of traffic control personnel. If you notice any damage to the street, sidewalk, or street lights caused by the work, you can report it directly through our online tools. Just visit Report a pothole or Report a street light issue to let us know.
The City will post regular updates about the project schedule and any weekend closures on the News & Events page. Thank you for your patience while we restore this piece of Wrenford’s history.
