Library board approves new accessibility improvements at Main Branch

The Wrenford Public Library Board has approved a new accessibility upgrade project for the Main Branch at 150 Mercer Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A3. Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 24 and will run through Friday, September 12, 2026.

The work focuses on three main areas. The Board will install automatic door openers at the main entrance to make it easier for patrons with mobility aids, strollers, and wheeled carts to enter. Crews will also rebuild the front ramp to meet updated AODA standards and refresh the building's tactile wayfinding signage to improve navigation for visually impaired visitors.

The library will stay open during construction. To keep foot traffic flowing safely, temporary fencing will go up around the main entrance on Mercer Street. A temporary service counter will be set up near the east entrance, and signed detours will guide visitors to the side door on Water Street. All program rooms, including the community room, will remain available for booking.

"Making sure everyone can walk through our doors without a barrier is a top priority for the Board," says Tara Sandhu, Library CEO. "These upgrades will make the space safer and easier to navigate for all patrons, and we are glad to finally get them underway."

Residents can check the full list of accessibility features at the library on the Accessibility features at facilities page. If you need to book a meeting room or program space during the construction period, please contact the library directly.

The Board expects the project to be completed on schedule. Updates on construction progress will be posted on the Library board meeting page. For full details on library services, hours, and booking procedures, visit the Wrenford Public Library — Main Branch page.
