Fire department celebrates grand opening of Fire Station 5

The Wrenford Fire Department is celebrating the grand opening of Fire Station 5 at 60 Stonebridge Drive in the Wildrye neighbourhood. The new facility brings faster emergency response times and expanded training space to the growing eastern part of the city. Residents are invited to tour the station, meet the crew, and learn about home fire safety from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on August 17, 2026.

Fire Station 5 joins four other city fire stations and is staffed by a team of firefighters and paramedics. The building includes updated equipment bays, a modern training kitchen for fire prevention workshops, and a community meeting room for neighbourhood safety planning. Crews will be on duty twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

“Having a fire station in Wildrye means we can reach our neighbours faster and build stronger ties with the community,” said Deputy Fire Chief Simon Hartley. “We want everyone in the area to know that these doors are open, and we are here to help keep your homes and families safe.”

During the open house, visitors can ride in a fire engine, see how firefighters use thermal imaging cameras to find heat in a fire, and pick up free smoke alarm batteries. The department will also hand out home fire escape plan templates. The crew will demonstrate how to safely store and charge lithium-ion batteries in everyday devices like e-bikes, power tools, and laptops.

The Fire Department reminds residents that working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire in half. You should test your alarms every month, replace them every ten years, and practice your escape plan with your family at least twice a year. If you need help installing an alarm or checking your batteries, you can call 311 to book a free home inspection through the Wrenford Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm Inspection Program.

The new station will also host regular fire safety workshops and community events. Upcoming sessions cover fire safety for outdoor gatherings, basement fire prevention, and emergency preparedness.

The grand opening is free and open to the public. Families are welcome. Street parking is available along Stonebridge Drive and the surrounding residential blocks. For more information about Wrenford Fire Rescue services, visit the Fire Rescue page.
