Extra garbage bags allowed for Canada Day in the Park weekend

The City of Wrenford is allowing one extra bag of garbage per household without a tag for the Canada Day weekend. Residents on a biweekly garbage schedule can place one extra bag of garbage at the curb on their regular pickup day from Friday, July 3 to Monday, July 6, 2026.

Canada Day celebrations and the Canada Day in the Park event at Centennial Gardens often bring more waste to households. While the City makes an exception for this weekend, residents are still encouraged to reduce what they throw away. You can reuse gift bags, use recyclable wrapping paper, compost food scraps, and recycle cardboard and plastic packaging whenever possible.

"We know Canada Day weekend brings more waste, but we encourage everyone to keep recycling and composting where they can," says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "Sorting your waste correctly helps keep our city clean and supports our diversion goals."

Your Blue Box recycling and Green Bin organics will continue to be collected on the usual weekly schedule. Please keep them clean and sorted so they can be processed quickly. If your cart is full, you can also drop off excess Green Bin material at any recreation centre or the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility during open hours. For more information on how to sort your waste correctly, visit the Waste Wizard. You can also find regular collection schedules and preparation tips on the Black cart and garbage collection page. If you have questions about your waste account or need a new cart, contact the Garbage & Recycling team.
