The City of Wrenford has completed a full environmental audit of the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility, confirming that operations are meeting all provincial and municipal standards. The audit, which wrapped up in early March, reviewed everything from landfill gas management to stormwater runoff controls across the site at 3500 Concession 4 Road.
The review was carried out by an independent environmental consulting firm hired by the City. It examined daily intake records, leachate treatment processes, and the facility's compliance with the Waste Management By-law 2023-105. The audit found that the site is operating safely and in full compliance with the Ontario Environmental Protection Act.
"We are pleased with the results, but the audit also highlighted a few areas where we can improve our long-term sustainability," said Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "Our goal is to keep Wrenford's waste diversion rates climbing while reducing the environmental footprint of our operations."
Key findings include a recommendation to upgrade the stormwater capture system near the drop-off depot and to expand the household hazardous waste collection program. The City will begin phasing in these upgrades later this year. Residents can expect minor traffic detours near the facility entrance during the construction phase, which is scheduled to run from May through October.
The audit also praised the facility's leaf and yard waste handling. Wrenford residents can continue to drop off paper yard-waste bags and loose brush at the Northgate Drop-off Depot or the East Wrenford site during the April to November collection season.
