On March 9, 2026, Wrenford Council approved the schematic design for the new Westbrook Community Arena. The $14.2 million capital project will upgrade the existing facility at 40 Westbrook Drive, Wrenford, ON N4Q 2C9, in the Westbrook neighbourhood.
The approved design adds a new 300-seat community hall, a modernized ice plant, and improved barrier-free access throughout. Residents will also see a new main lobby with a café, upgraded locker rooms, and expanded seating around the two existing ice pads. The project follows the City's sustainable building policy to target high energy efficiency and low operational costs.
Construction is expected to begin in early June 2026. The arena is scheduled to reopen in September 2027. During the build, one ice pad will stay open for public skating and minor league hockey. Crews will manage traffic and sidewalk detours along Westbrook Drive, so residents should expect some temporary lane restrictions and increased noise near the site.
"This revitalization ensures the Westbrook Community Arena remains a safe, accessible, and welcoming space for our residents for decades to come," says Fiona Gallagher, GM Community Services. "We heard from community groups that they needed more flexible space for events, and the new hall delivers exactly that."
The City will now move into the detailed design and procurement phase. Residents can view the full schematic design package and submit feedback at the Planning and Environment Committee meeting on April 1.
