City Council unanimously approved a package of zoning amendments and development permits for 589 new homes at its meeting on October 20, 2026, in the Council Chambers at Wrenford City Hall. The decision advances the City's commitment to providing safe, affordable, and accessible housing for all residents.
The approved projects include a mix of rental and ownership units in the Wildrye, Northgate, and Benchlands neighbourhoods. The Wildrye site will deliver 240 low-income rental units, Northgate will add 180 mid-density rental apartments, and the Benchlands site will bring 169 ownership and affordable rental homes. An additional 50 units are being processed through the Wrenford ePermits portal and are expected to clear planning staff review by early November.
"This package brings us closer to reaching our goal that every resident has a secure and affordable place to call home," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "We have streamlined the permitting process specifically for projects that deliver long-term housing stability, and we are proud to see these developments move forward."
To get these projects built faster, Administration prioritized the review of applications for affordable and supportive housing ahead of standard development requests. The City also provided dedicated staff support from the Planning and Infrastructure departments, shared relevant zoning data, and issued letters of support outlining local community need. These steps align with the Wrenford Housing Strategy 2025–2030, which sets a target of building 1,200 new homes this term.
Residents and developers interested in similar projects can explore the available housing incentive programmes and fee rebates. The Housing Strategy Steering Committee will review the annual progress report at its next meeting in November.
