The Parks & Trails team is testing soil at Centennial Gardens ahead of the spring planting season. Starting today, April 2, 2026, crew members will collect samples from the formal gardens and planter beds near the cenotaph. This work ensures the soil is ready for the flowers and shrubs that will bloom throughout the summer.
Good soil health is the foundation of a beautiful park. The team checks for pH levels, nutrients, and organic matter to see what the plants need. If the soil is too acidic or lacks key nutrients, the crew adds natural amendments before planting begins. This means your favourite spring blooms will have the best possible start.
You can help us keep the gardens healthy this season. If you notice bare spots, unusual colour changes in the leaves, or soil that looks washed out, please let us know. We also ask that you stay on the paved paths and avoid stepping on the garden beds. The young plants need a quiet space to establish their roots.
"The health of Centennial Gardens depends on the soil beneath our feet," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "By testing the ground now, we can make sure every planting gets exactly what it needs to thrive all season long."
Once the testing is complete, we will share the results and planting updates on the Centennial Gardens page. In the meantime, you can check the Learn about park maintenance services page for tips on how to care for your own spring gardens. You can reach the Parks & Trails team directly at [email protected].
If you spot a problem in the park, use the Report a park maintenance issue form to tell us right away. Thank you for helping us grow a greener Wrenford.
