On June 19, 2026, the City of Wrenford announced the third phase of the Wrenford Transit Zero-Emission Fleet Plan. The announcement marks the arrival of fifteen new electric buses and the installation of charging hubs across the transit network.
The new buses feature a 310-kilometre operating range on a single charge. They will first serve Routes 5, 8, 10, 12, and 13, which connect residential neighbourhoods to the downtown core and the lake. The City follows a diversified fleet strategy, meaning electric buses will handle shorter, high-frequency routes while diesel hybrids continue to service the longer corridors. Federal grants will cover the majority of the purchase price, keeping costs low for Wrenford taxpayers.
Alongside the vehicles, the City is building out charging hubs. The primary charging station will be located at the Downtown Transit Terminal, with a secondary hub at the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility. These sites were chosen because they already have the electrical capacity needed for heavy-duty charging.
"This phase brings quieter, cleaner buses to your neighbourhood and makes sure our transit system is ready for the future," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "Residents will notice a smoother ride, less noise, and zero tailpipe emissions in the areas that need it most."
You do not need to change how you pay or book your ride. Your existing fare cards, monthly passes, and the Wrenford Transit app will work exactly as before. Service frequencies will remain the same during this rollout. However, the City is making sure the stops themselves are ready. Stop improvements on Routes 5 and 12 are currently underway, adding longer waiting bays and accessible platforms to match the new vehicles.
