The Ambrel Lake Loop Expansion is moving into its final construction phase, with crews completing final grading along the north shore of Ambrel Lake Park this week. The new pathway will connect the existing boardwalk to the playground and picnic shelters, giving you a safer, smoother route for walking and rolling through one of the city's most popular parks.
Work began on March 10, 2026, after a successful public consultation period that helped shape the trail's route and surface materials. The project supports the Active Transportation Network Strategy, which guides how the city builds walking and cycling routes to link neighbourhoods, parks, and transit stops.
"This loop brings the north shore fully into the trail network," says Grace Whitlock, Ward 4 Councillor. "Residents have been asking for a continuous path around the water for years. Seeing crews put down the final layer of gravel and compact the surface is a great sign that we will have it ready for families before the summer rush."
The expansion adds roughly 1.2 kilometres of new multi-use trail. It features accessible gradients, drainage improvements to handle spring runoff, and clear signage that matches the rest of the Tamsin River Trail System. Construction is on schedule to finish by late May, just in time for the spring and summer recreation season.
Until the path officially opens, crews will continue with final grading and cleanup. Some sections of the park may have temporary signage or narrowed access near the work zone. We thank you for your patience while we finish this upgrade.
Once complete, the new loop will join the existing Ambrel Lake Park amenities, making it easier to reach the splash pad, washrooms, and event lawn without navigating steep or uneven ground.
