Ambrel Lake Park ice skate rentals reopen January 9

Outdoor ice skate rentals open at Ambrel Lake Park on Friday, January 9. The rink is ready for residents who want to enjoy some winter fun before the season ends. Helmets are available at the rental desk at no extra cost.

Skate rentals will run from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily, with extended hours on weekends. You can rent a pair of skates for a flat fee, and the desk also offers sharpening services. If you prefer to bring your own gear, the skate sharpening station opens the same day.

Before you head out, check the outdoor skating rink locations page for the most current ice conditions and weather updates. The City monitors ice thickness daily and closes rinks if conditions become unsafe. We recommend wearing layered, weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy winter boots, and a warm hat. Helmets are strongly encouraged for all ages, especially for younger skaters.

"We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable time on the ice this winter," says Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "Please remember to check the rink status online before you visit, and make sure children are supervised at all times. We also have free helmets at the rental desk, so please wear one for your safety."

Family Day is coming up on the long weekend in February, and the rink will be busy. Arrive early in the day to avoid crowds, and consider bringing a thermos of hot cocoa. The City will also host a free learn to skate registration event at the park next week for beginners who want to take a few lessons before the rink closes for the season.
