Where to find a rink

You can skate on a free outdoor rink at several parks across the city. The City maintains and clears the ice at these locations from December to March, once the temperature stays below freezing for several nights in a row. We flood the surface to make it smooth and safe for skating.

Check the status of each rink before you go. We only open a rink after the snow is cleared and the ice is fully frozen. You can call Wrenford 311 or check the Winter Amenities map on our website to see which rinks are open.

Rink locations

Here are the main outdoor rinks we operate:

  • Riverside Flats Park — 25 Water Street. A large open area near the river trail.
  • Ambrel Lake Park — 1350 Ambrel Lake Road. A flat, grassy space near the boardwalk.
  • Benchlands Lookout Park — 500 Benchlands Drive. A wide area with a view of the falls.
  • Centennial Gardens — 5 Victoria Street. A historic garden space that turns into a rink each winter.

We also run natural ice rinks on the Tamsin River Trail. These rinks follow the path and offer a scenic skate along the water. Always check the trail status before skating on the river, as currents can make the ice thin or unstable in some spots.

Rink rules and safety

To keep everyone safe, please follow these rules:

  • Skates only. Do not bring hockey sticks, nets, pucks, sleds, or toboggans onto the ice.
  • Wear a helmet. Helmets are strongly recommended for all skaters, especially children.
  • Stay off the ice while we are working. Do not skate on a rink while we are clearing snow or flooding the surface.
  • Keep dogs on a leash. Dogs are welcome in the parks, but they must stay on a short leash around the rink area.
  • Skate at your own risk. The ice is maintained for public use, but weather conditions can change quickly.

Skate rentals and lessons

If you need skates, you can rent or sharpen them at our indoor recreation centres. Visit Ice skate rentals and sharpening for a full list of locations and hours. You can also book an ice slot at Westbrook Community Arena or Eastfield Twin Arenas if you prefer to skate indoors.

Want to learn how to skate? Registration for Learn to skate registration classes opens in early December. Classes are held at Westbrook Community Arena and Eastfield Twin Arenas.
