Ambrel Lake Park hosts annual summer cleanup volunteer event

The Parks and Trails team invites Wrenford residents to help restore Ambrel Lake Park this Saturday, June 21. The annual summer cleanup volunteer event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the park grounds on Ambrel Lake Road. City staff will provide gloves, trash bags, grabbers, and light refreshments. Volunteers will focus on clearing debris from the boardwalk, picking up litter near the playground, and helping crews prepare the picnic shelters for the busy summer season.

“Every hour a resident spends helping out at our parks reduces the strain on city crews and keeps our green spaces welcoming for everyone,” says Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. “Our volunteer days show how much this city values community spirit, and they directly support the parks services we fund through your property taxes.”

The cleanup is part of the broader 2026 operating budget plan for municipal parks. The current budget allocates funds for regular trail maintenance, playground inspections, and seasonal programming across all six wards. When volunteers join city workers, the municipality can redirect those hours toward other pressing projects, like the Corvid Creek Ravine Pathway Extension. By working together, the city and residents stretch the 2026 budget further, ensuring every dollar from property taxes delivers maximum value for the community.

Residents do not need to register, but they can plan their visit by checking the Parks & Trails page for seasonal updates. If you cannot volunteer but want to see how your property tax dollars fund parks maintenance and capital projects, explore the 2026 Annual Budget and budget engagement pages.

Bring a reusable water bottle, wear sturdy shoes, and meet the Parks and Trails team near the main boardwalk entrance. Families are welcome, and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
