Wrenford is making it easier for older residents to stay connected online. The Wrenford Youth Council is teaming up with the City's Seniors' Office to launch a new Digital Connections Workshop series. The free classes start on March 5 at the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre and run for six weeks.
Each session lasts two hours and focuses on one practical topic. The first month covers setting up email, using video calling apps like Zoom, and staying safe on the internet. The second month looks at online banking, booking medical appointments, and using city services online. Youth volunteers from the Wrenford Youth Council will lead the classes. They will also be on hand to help troubleshoot your device and answer your questions in a relaxed setting.
You can bring your own laptop, tablet, or phone. The City also has a small number of laptops you can borrow from the Seniors' Office if you need one. The workshop is open to anyone aged 65 and older. No prior computer experience is needed. The City will provide free coffee and light snacks during each session.
"Connecting our youth with older adults through technology is a great way to build community," said Robert Eng, City Manager. "Many of our senior residents want to learn how to use these tools, and the Youth Council is excited to share their knowledge in a friendly, patient way."
To join the workshop, call 519-555-0100 or visit the Seniors page online. Spaces are limited to 12 participants per week, so you should sign up early. You will get a warm welcome and plenty of one-on-one help. For more information about the Youth Council's outreach work, see the Youth engagement and feedback channels page.
These workshops are just one part of the City's ongoing work to keep older residents active and included. Check the Programs for older adults page to see what else you can do this spring.
