Wildrye Splash Pad accessible features tested ahead of summer opening

City staff tested the water pressure, drainage, and safety surfaces at the Wildrye Splash Pad earlier this week. The splash pad is located at Wildrye Park on 90 Wildrye Drive in the Wildrye neighbourhood. Crews are making final checks ahead of the late June opening for the 2025 outdoor season.

The splash pad is part of the City's commitment to the Accessibility at the City. Every new park amenity is checked against our accessibility guidelines to make sure it works for everyone in the community. During the testing phase, staff looked at water temperature controls, non-slip flooring, and clear sightlines so caregivers can watch children easily from all angles.

"Our goal is to make sure every splash pad in Wrenford is a safe and welcoming space for families," said City Manager Robert Eng. "We test the equipment thoroughly so that when the gates open, you can focus on enjoying the water with your children."

The City also encourages residents to reach out if they notice any barriers or need adjustments at the park. You can report accessibility concerns through Wrenford 311 or by calling 519-555-0100. Staff aim to acknowledge your report within two business days and work with the Parks & Trails team to fix the issue quickly. For more information on how the City builds and maintains accessible parks, visit the Accessibility feedback page.

The splash pad will open alongside the outdoor pool season, running from late June to Labour Day. Lifeguards are not on duty at the splash pad, so families should supervise children at all times. There is ample parking at Wildrye Park, and the site is accessible by Wrenford Transit Route 14.
