Starting this week, Waste Wise program ambassadors are hitting the streets across Wrenford to help residents sort their waste correctly and keep our neighbourhoods clean. The volunteer team will begin their community outreach in Downtown and Riverside Flats, visiting parks, community centres, and local businesses to share simple tips on using the Green Bin, Blue Bin, and black cart.
The ambassadors are trained to answer questions about what goes in each bin, how to prepare recyclables, and how to avoid common contamination mistakes. They will also hand out guides and show residents how to use the Waste Wizard online lookup tool to quickly check if an item belongs in the garbage, recycling, or organics bin. If a resident is unsure, the ambassador will look it up together with them.
"Keeping Wrenford clean is a shared responsibility, and these ambassadors are here to make sorting waste easier for everyone," says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "When we get the sorting right, we divert more material from the landfill, save money on collection, and keep our parks and waterways free of litter."
Residents who want to join the programme or need a waste sorting guide delivered to their home can contact the Waste Wise team at [email protected]. The ambassadors will continue their outreach throughout the spring, moving into Benchlands, Northgate, and the newer Wildrye neighbourhood in the coming weeks. They are also available to speak at local community groups, schools, and business associations.
