Transit network improvements project enters construction phase

Construction has officially begun on the Transit network improvements project, a multi-year initiative designed to modernize the bus network, expand on-demand service, and replace aging vehicles. The City of Wrenford announced today that crews will start upgrading stops on Routes 5 and 12 this week.

If you take Route 5 along Corvid Way or Route 12 along Ambrel Lake Road, you will see wider bus bays and extended stops. These physical changes are meant to improve boarding times and make it easier for you to get on and off the bus with strollers, wheelchairs, or mobility aids. The construction also lays the groundwork for the Neighbourhood Access Fleet, a set of 9.1-metre low-floor buses that will begin operating on local routes in early 2026.

The project supports the expansion of Wrenford Flex, the City's on-demand transit service. The City is currently approving virtual stop locations in the Northgate and Industrial Park East corridors. These pre-approved pick-up and drop-off points will give you a new way to book trips up to 14 days in advance once the zones open later this year.

Upgrading our stops and introducing low-floor vehicles is just the first step. This project is about making sure every resident can get to work, school, and the Tamsin River Trail system without barriers, said Daniel Osei, Transit Manager.

Construction work will cause temporary lane shifts on Corvid Way and Ambrel Lake Road during peak morning and afternoon hours. You should expect minor delays, and you should allow an extra five minutes for trips on the affected routes. Wrenford Transit will maintain full service throughout the construction period using temporary stop placements.

The City will continue to update you through the Wrenford Transit app and Service Alerts as crews move from Route 5 to Route 12.
