Registration for the 2025 summer season at the Northgate Aquatic Centre is now open, and the City is adding new inclusive programming to ensure everyone in Wrenford can enjoy the water. Starting in June, the aquatic centre will offer adaptive swim lessons designed for residents with mobility, sensory, or developmental needs.
The new adaptive swim lessons run in small groups with certified instructors who have specialized training in water safety and accessibility. Classes are held in the leisure pool to provide a calm, sensory-friendly environment. Instructors work with each participant to meet their personal goals, whether that is getting comfortable in the water, learning to float, or building stroke technique.
“We want to make sure every resident feels welcome at the Northgate Aquatic Centre,” said Caroline Dubé, Recreation Programs Coordinator. “Adaptive programming allows us to tailor our teaching methods so that participants can learn at their own pace in a safe and supportive setting.”
Families can register for adaptive swim lessons at the same time as other summer programmes. If you need help with registration or want to discuss specific support needs, you can contact the aquatic centre directly at 519-555-0121 or email [email protected]. The City also offers fee waivers and reductions through the Leisure Access Card for residents who qualify.
The Northgate Aquatic Centre will also host regular swim lessons in the 50-metre pool, leisure swims, and family swim events this summer. For a full list of programmes, accessibility features, and booking information, visit the registration page.
