Heat warning in effect: cooling centres open at Northgate Aquatic

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Wrenford and the surrounding area as of July 18, 2025. In response, the City of Wrenford has activated its cooling centre protocol. We are opening several air-conditioned public facilities to help you stay cool and safe during the high temperatures.

The Northgate Aquatic Centre at 910 Northgate Boulevard is open for cooling centre use. You can visit Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on weekends from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Other locations include the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre, the Main Branch of the Wrenford Public Library, and the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre. All locations are fully accessible and welcome you to bring well-behaved pets.

Tamsin Valley Public Health advises that indoor temperatures above 26°C can become unsafe, especially for older adults, young children, and people with health conditions. Drink plenty of water before you feel thirsty. Take cool showers, wear light clothing, and check on your neighbours and family members who may be at higher risk. If you cannot stay cool at home, please visit one of the cooling centres or find shade in a park.

"We want to make sure every resident has a safe, comfortable place to go when the heat builds," says Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "These centres are free to visit, and our staff and volunteers are ready to help you stay cool.
