City reminds residents of winter parking ban start date

Starting December 1, 2025, the City of Wrenford will enforce the overnight on-street parking ban across all wards. The ban runs from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. each morning until March 31, 2026. During these hours, vehicles cannot remain parked on any main or residential streets that are part of the Roads & Winter Maintenance network.

The ban is enforced under the Winter Maintenance and Parking By-law 2020-097. It is necessary to allow crews to push snow back from the curbs and keep streets safe for emergency and private vehicles. Main roads are plowed when snow reaches 5 centimetres, and residential streets are cleared once the snowpack hits 8 centimetres. Keeping the streets clear during the overnight window ensures our crews can reach every neighbourhood quickly after a storm.

If you do not have a driveway or a private parking lot, you will need to move your vehicle before 2:00 a.m. You can park in off-street lots, commercial parking garages, or designated winter parking areas. Check the Service Alerts page for real-time updates on ban declarations and any temporary adjustments.

Residents who have mobility conditions that make it difficult to move a vehicle far can apply for an exemption. The Snow Route Parking Ban Exemption Program allows eligible residents to keep their cars on snow route streets during clearing operations. Applications are free and take four to six weeks to process, so please apply early in the season.

"Clearing our streets quickly and safely depends on residents keeping the roads clear during these morning hours," said James Whitford, Roads Superintendent. "Your cooperation helps our crews maintain access for emergency vehicles and ensures everyone gets home safely when the roads are covered in snow."
