The City of Wrenford is opening applications for its spring volunteer recruitment drive, launching today, November 5, 2025. Residents can sign up to help maintain parks, trails, and natural areas across the city.
The spring season brings busy work for our green spaces. After winter weather, crews need help clearing debris from walking paths, checking catch basins for blockages, and planting new gardens along traffic medians. Volunteers will work alongside Parks & Trails staff at sites like Riverside Flats Park, Benchlands Lookout Park, and along the Tamsin River Trail System. The City provides all necessary tools, gloves, and safety gear, so you can focus on the work. Whether you prefer light gardening or more active trail maintenance, there is a role for you.
"Spring is the best time to get outside and see how much your neighbourhood green spaces have improved," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "We are thrilled to welcome back our regular volunteers and hope to build a strong team for the months ahead."
To join, you need to be at least 14 years old. You can sign up for the Green Streets Volunteer Program, which focuses on gardening and weed removal in parks and along the rail trail, or the Catch Basin Adoption Program, which helps prevent local flooding by keeping drains clear. All volunteers must complete a short safety briefing before their first shift. You can register online through the Volunteer opportunities page or pick up a paper form at the Service Wrenford counter in City Hall. Shifts are flexible, and you can choose projects that fit your schedule.
If you have not volunteered with the City before, start with the Volunteer handbook to learn about our programs, safety rules, and recognition events. We look forward to seeing you outside this spring.
