City launches name the plow contest for winter fleet

The City of Wrenford is asking residents to help name eight of our snowplows for the rest of the winter. The Name the Plow contest opens today, February 10, and runs through March 10. You can cast your vote online or at any Service Wrenford counter.

Snowplows are busy clearing our streets right now. The City's Roads & Winter Maintenance team divides the city into six winter zones to make sure residential streets are cleared within 48 hours of an eight-centimetre snowfall. Main roads start clearing at five centimetres. Giving our drivers and machines a name is a small way to show appreciation for the hard work that keeps us safe and moving through the snow.

"We know that snow removal is one of the most visible things the City does every winter," says City Manager Robert Eng. "It is a lot of hard work, and we want to bring a little fun to the season. This contest is a great way for the community to connect with the crews who are out on the roads in all kinds of weather."

The City is looking for family-friendly names that celebrate Wrenford's spirit. Past contests have seen residents suggest clever puns and local references. You can submit up to three names each. The shortlist will be posted online in early March, and the top eight names will be painted on the plows before the spring thaw.

While you are voting, remember that the overnight on-street parking ban is in effect from December 1 to March 31, from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. on main roads. If you need an exemption because of a medical condition, you can apply for a Snow route parking bans.

Thank you to everyone who helps keep our neighbourhoods clear and safe this winter. Check out the Roads & Winter Maintenance page for more information on snow clearing schedules and how to Report a pothole.
