City crews are out clearing fallen trees and large branches from sidewalks, streets, and parks following the ice storm that hit Wrenford on January 13–14. Roads & Winter Maintenance crews are working through the Benchlands and Riverside Flats neighbourhoods, with teams expected to move into Larch Heights and Northgate by Wednesday.
Residents can help by keeping their own properties clear. The City asks that branches be cut into pieces no longer than 2.4 metres and under 50 centimetres in diameter. You can place them in your green bin for organics collection, or leave them curbside on your regular garbage collection day. Please do not leave them on the road where they could damage vehicles or block sightlines.
If you are clearing branches yourself, wear sturdy gloves, eye protection, and use proper cutting tools. Keep children and pets away from work areas. If a tree is hanging on power lines or a utility pole, do not touch it. Call the utility company or 911 if it is an emergency.
"Our priority is keeping roads and walkways open for everyone," said James Whitford, Roads Superintendent. "We are deploying extra crews to the most affected areas, but we need your help to keep branches off the streets so we can move quickly."
Remember that snow route parking bans under Winter Maintenance and Parking By-law 2020-097 are still in effect from December 1 to March 31 between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. If you need to move your vehicle to let crews access your street, you can apply for a snow route parking ban exemption at Apply for a snow route parking ban exemption. For questions about waste collection during the cleanup, call 519-555-0100 or visit Garbage & Recycling.
The City will continue to monitor debris levels and adjust crew assignments as needed. Updates on street clearing and park status are available on the Service Alerts page.
