City crews will begin their fall cleanup at Centennial Gardens on September 1. The work will run through the end of October as staff prepare the downtown gardens for winter.
Centennial Gardens, located at 5 Victoria Street, is one of the city's most historic green spaces. Every autumn, the Parks & Trails team clears flower beds, removes dead foliage, and rakes leaves from the formal gardens and walkways. Crews will also check the drainage around the cenotaph and ensure all benches and signage are secure before the first snow.
"We put a lot of care into Centennial Gardens throughout the growing season," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "Fall cleanup makes sure the space stays safe and beautiful for residents and visitors as we head into the colder months."
During the cleanup, some sections of the garden may be temporarily closed. Staff will use temporary fencing and signage to keep the public away from active work zones. Please follow all posted detours and keep pets on a leash at least two metres away from crews and equipment.
If you notice a broken fence, a damaged bench, or a drainage issue while crews are working, please report it using the online form. The Parks & Trails team reviews all reports within two business days and will dispatch a maintenance crew if needed.
Residents who want to help can join the monthly volunteer workdays. Sign up through the Parks & Trails page to pick a date that fits your schedule. Gloves and tools are provided.
