The Ambrel Lake pathway expansion is nearing completion ahead of the winter season. The project, located along the north shore of Ambrel Lake Park, adds a protected loop to the existing trail network and connects directly to the wider Tamsin River Trail System.
Crews have been busy installing new asphalt, upgrading street lighting along Ambrel Lake Road, and improving crosswalks at the main park entrances. The expansion was designed with environmental protections in mind. A qualified environmental professional conducted a bird nesting study before clearing vegetation, and no active nests were found in the areas requiring tree removal.
During the construction phase, traffic on Ambrel Lake Road between the park entrance and the recreation centre was reduced to a single lane during daytime hours. A second crew worked evening hours to keep the schedule on track. All work is now finished, and the lanes have returned to normal.
The new pathway features a smooth, all-season surface that meets AODA accessible pathway standards. It also includes new benches, waste receptacles, and a clear signpost directing users to the Tamsin River Trail System and the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre.
"We wanted to make sure this expansion felt safe and connected for everyone, whether they are walking their dogs, commuting to work, or heading to a morning skate at the recreation centre," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "Getting it finished before the snow falls means residents can enjoy the new route all winter long."
Residents are reminded to check parking regulations around the park, as overnight winter parking bans take effect on December 1. If you notice any maintenance issues on the new pathway, you can report them using the city's online form.
