You can now enjoy improved parking access and upgraded amenities at Ambrel Lake Park, located at 1350 Ambrel Lake Road. The City opened the enhanced park area on May 20, 2025, following a series of capital projects designed to improve visitor access, green space, and recreational infrastructure.
The improvements include a reconfigured visitor parking lot with twelve new marked spaces, a paved pathway connecting the lot to the boardwalk, and upgraded picnic shelters. The park’s existing playground received new accessible climbing structures and shade canopies, while the surrounding meadow planting now supports local pollinators and provides additional shade during summer months.
"We are committed to building parks that welcome everyone in our community," says Ward 4 Councillor Grace Whitlock. "By adding these parking spaces and improving the pathways, we are making sure that families, seniors, and visitors can easily access the boardwalk and picnic areas without straining our existing infrastructure."
The City worked closely with Ward 4 residents during the planning phase to address feedback about limited parking and overcrowding during peak summer weekends. The new layout separates visitor parking from resident permit zones, ensuring that locals retain priority access to their neighbourhood streets while accommodating the increased foot traffic the park receives.
Visitors should note that the new parking lot operates on a first-come, first-served basis from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily. Overnight parking is not permitted in accordance with the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075. Residents looking to host events near the boardwalk can book the picnic shelters through the Facilities page, while commercial film or photography shoots require a Street use permit.
