Wrenford tree planting program applications now open for 2024

The City of Wrenford is accepting applications for the 2024 tree planting programme through the Canopy for Wrenford initiative. Residents can submit their applications starting today, April 15, and the window will stay open until May 31. City crews and community volunteers will work together to plant new trees across parks, boulevards, and residential streets over the next few months.

Every tree is placed on city property to strengthen the urban forest and make neighbourhoods cooler in summer. Before any digging happens, crews complete underground utility locates so workers and the public stay safe. The programme focuses on species that handle our local soil and weather, and each tree comes with a care guide so it can grow strong for decades.

“Every new tree is an investment in our community’s health and our climate resilience,” says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. “We are thrilled to have residents join us in growing the canopy that will shade our streets and support local wildlife for generations.”

To take part, visit the online application form and select your preferred planting location. You will choose from a list of approved native and adapted species, and confirm whether the spot is in a park, on a boulevard, or in a designated residential planting zone. Once your application is reviewed, the City will schedule a planting date in late spring or early summer. If you have questions about site selection or species, email the Parks team at [email protected].
