Wrenford introduces new blue bin recycling guidelines for January

Starting January 1, 2024, the City of Wrenford is rolling out updated guidelines for the blue bin recycling program. The changes aim to cut down on contamination and make it easier for residents to sort their household waste correctly.

The updated rules align with Ontario’s producer responsibility program for Blue Box recycling. You can now place a wider range of flexible plastics, clean paper products, and aluminium and steel cans in your blue bin. Items must be empty, dry, and placed loose in the bin—no bags or bundles. This shift supports the City’s goal of diverting 60 per cent of residential waste from the landfill by 2030.

“Getting the sorting right at home is the fastest way to keep our diversion rates climbing toward our 2030 goal of 60 per cent,” says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. “These updated guidelines make it simpler for everyone to know exactly what belongs in the blue bin.”

To help you adjust, the City has refreshed the Waste Wizard online tool. You can search for any household item to see exactly which bin it belongs in. A printed version of the new sorting guide is also available at Service Wrenford at City Hall, the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility, and all recreation centres.

Blue bin collection happens every week on the same day as your green bin. If you have questions about your collection schedule or need a new cart, visit our Blue bin and recycling collection page for full details and FAQs.
