The City of Wrenford activated its Emergency Operations Centre on December 16, 2024, as Environment and Climate Change Canada issues a winter storm warning. Heavy snow, strong winds and freezing rain are expected to move into the region by the evening of December 17 and continue through December 19.
City staff are monitoring road conditions and weather updates closely. Crews from Roads & Winter Maintenance and the Public Safety department are on standby to clear main roads and respond to incidents. If you need to travel, please avoid all non-essential trips. Roads can become hazardous quickly as temperatures drop and snow accumulates.
"Our priority is keeping residents safe and roads clear," says Liam O'Rourke, Community Emergency Management Coordinator. "We ask everyone to stay off the roads unless it is absolutely necessary. If you must drive, allow extra time and keep your gas tank full."
What you should do right now:
- Check your emergency kit and make sure you have enough food, water, medications and flashlights for three days.
- Dress in layers and prepare your home for a power outage. Know where your main gas and water shut-offs are.
- Keep your phone charged and have a battery-powered radio or a way to receive alerts.
If you see a downed power line, a fallen tree on a road, or a car stuck in a snowbank, call 9-1-1 only if it is an emergency. For non-urgent service issues, call 311 or use the Wrenford 311 portal. You can also report road conditions by calling 311.
The City will update you as conditions change. Follow the Wrenford Emergency Alert Network for official updates. For more information on how to prepare for winter storms and what to do during severe weather, visit our extreme weather preparedness page.
