Wrenford Transit advises riders that snow clearing operations along Mercer Street and Water Street will temporarily shift bus stops near the Downtown Transit Terminal. The changes take effect as soon as a winter snow route is declared by the City.
When a parking ban is in effect, City crews use plows to clear the curb lane so they can reach residential streets. Because the plows need space to turn and clear the road, buses cannot safely pull into their regular stops right next to the terminal. Instead, Wrenford Transit will move stops to the nearest safe corners.
For example, buses on Route 1 (Downtown to Ambrel Lake) and Route 8 (Railside to Downtown) will stop on the far corner of Mercer Street and Water Street, or along Church Street between Market Square and Albert Street. Look for temporary signs at the relocated stops.
"Snow clearing is a top priority for keeping our roads safe, but it does change how buses move through the downtown core," says Daniel Osei, Transit Manager. "We have worked closely with our winter maintenance team to make sure riders still have clear, safe access to the terminal."
If you rely on transit during a snow event, please plan ahead. The relocated stops may be slightly farther from your usual pickup point. Allow extra time for your trip, and check the Wrenford Transit app or call 311 for real-time updates on bus arrivals and detours.
Motorists driving downtown should also expect slower traffic. Plows and snow removal trucks will be moving at reduced speeds, and pedestrians may be crossing in unplowed areas. Please drive with caution and give buses plenty of room when they pull out.
