The City of Wrenford will begin its annual water main flushing program on Monday, April 22, 2024, focusing on the south end of the city. Crews from the Water & Wastewater department will visit neighbourhoods including Ambrel Lake, Southview, Orchard Park, Ashgrove and Eastfield over the coming weeks.
Flushing helps keep our drinking water safe and clean by clearing out sediment and checking water pressure in the pipes. During the process, you might notice your tap water looking cloudy or brown. This is safe to drink, but it can stain laundry and plumbing fixtures.
If you see discoloured water, run a cold water tap at the highest point in your home—like an upstairs bathroom sink—until it runs clear. This usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Do not run hot water, as that can pull sediment into your water heater. If the water does not clear after 20 minutes, or if you have any concerns, call 311 or 519-555-0100.
"We want to make sure residents know exactly what to expect when our crews are working in their area," says Patrick Nguyen, Water Operations Manager. "A quick flush of your cold tap at home is all that is usually needed to get things back to normal."
Flushing will take place during regular business hours, Monday to Friday. You may see crews working on the street or hear the sound of water running. If you need to park on a street where flushing is happening, please check the posted signs or call 311 to ask about temporary parking restrictions.
