The City of Wrenford has removed several storm-damaged trees from Centennial Gardens following a heavy wind and rain event last week. Crews from Parks & Trails finished the cleanup on October 11, and the gardens are now fully accessible for visitors.
The storm brought strong winds that knocked over two mature elms and damaged several smaller trees near the formal gardens and the cenotaph. The fallen trees blocked main walkways and created safety hazards for visitors. Parks staff worked with the Roads & Winter Maintenance team to chip the wood for mulch and clear the debris from the grounds. We are also assessing the soil conditions around the remaining trees to ensure the site remains stable as we head into colder weather.
"Our crews worked through the night to clear the paths and ensure Centennial Gardens is safe for the community," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "We appreciate residents who reported the downed branches so we could respond quickly."
If you see any remaining hazards, like broken branches or exposed roots, please report them. You can use the online form at Report a park maintenance issue or call 311. The City also reminds residents that as leaves fall, keeping walkways clear of large piles of wet foliage helps prevent slips and falls.
